Description

Black dominates nearly the entire composition, but it is not uniform. Cool blues, off-whites, and traces of earlier brushstrokes shine through its layers. The surface of the painting is dense, rough in places, and built up from successive layers of paint.

“Sleepless Days” is based on the tension between the weight of the dark areas and the fragments that are trying to break through to the surface. The forms overlap, partially disappear, and reappear. However, they do not form a closed structure.

The title does not provide a clear explanation. Rather, it is yet another clue left alongside what can be seen.
